Letter to the editor

Dear Editor,
As chaos and drama unfolded with the tabling of women’s reservation bills in the Rajya Sabha, a question beset my mind. We continue to adopt an old traditional way of marriages, where, in many cases, parents prefer their son-in-law to be aged 10 years or more than their daughter. Research finding shows, female lives 4-5 years longer than their male counterpart. This means that wife must live a widow life and take the household responsibilities for about 15 years.

Question:
1. Does this conform the reason behind our society witnessing large no of widows?
2. Can we call this untold misery a violation of women’s right?
3. Is their denial to their parental decision a clear sign of resistance that they face even today?

Congratulations! You've done a great job! I thought LAMHIL would cease to circulate after the January issue. That's how it has been ovet the years. You really surprised me with your efforts in publishing LAMHIL regularly. Please do continue.... My Best Wishes.
